It seems like most paper-based items have gone digital. You’ve got digital books, digital notepads, digital address books, even digital concert tickets. I was surprised to learn that there are even digital scratch cards! Lucktastic, a popular app for iOS and Android, is a prime example of this.
After a few months of scratching that itch, I now present to you my thorough and detailed Lucktastic review. Is Lucktastic a scam? Or is Lucktastic real? I’ll be answering all those questions in my Lucktastic review. Read on!
Tell Me More About Lucktastic
Lucktastic is a mobile app. The Lucktastic app is a digital scratch card. Like real-world scratch cards, you “scratch” (actually swipe with your fingers) the digital boxes on your screen. When you get matching boxes, you win a prize, which comes in the form of cash, gift cards, and contest entries. And there are all sorts of bonuses here as well, making this a really fun way to spend your free time. Over 1 million people use the Lucktastic app, and the company has given rewards worth over $3 million to its winning members.
The site has also received coverage from mainstream news and documentary channels like the Discovery Channel, Yahoo!, and Reuters. The fact that these organizations gave Lucktastic coverage is a big sign that the Lucktastic is legit.
And the best part? All of this is free! You don’t have to pay for memberships or any sort of processing fee (which is something scam sites love to do). The only catch here is that for each scratch card/ticket you play, you need to watch a brief video. So Lucktastic works as a sort of advertising platform for other companies. I think that’s a pretty legit thing to do, and I’m glad they share some of those sweet earnings with members in the form of prizes.
Lucktastic: First Impressions
Other Lucktastic reviews don’t seem to cover how their website looks. I think that’s an important part of determining if an app is any good, because a crappy website usually means the team behind it isn’t too concerned about your experience as a user.
I’m happy to report that the Lucktastic site looks pretty sweet. It’s one of the most fun-looking sites I’ve found. They’ve even got the luck four leaf clover thing going, which suits their brand. But beyond the funky design and fun exterior, the site easy to navigate. The layout is clean and the content is easy to read. I read through the site and had no trouble understanding how this works.
Overall, an excellent first impression!
How Do You Use Lucktastic?
First, you need to download and install the Lucktastic app on your phone. There’s a version for both iOS and Android. So far, Lucktastic is mobile-only. And I can see why; I don’t think the experience translates well to desktop. Also, only residents of the United States can use the app, which is a bummer because I know a lot of people around the world would be psyched to use this.
After doing all that you can start playing! There are actually multiple ways to earn on Lucktastic – scratch cards are only one method. But since scratch cards are the most popular method, let’s start with that.
Scratch cards have six boxes, and you win a prize when at least three boxes match. There’s a seventh box which gives you a guaranteed reward token, which can be redeemed as various rewards later on.
Scratch cards come in multiple flavors. Some give you the chance to win cash (up to $1,500!), some give you the chance to get gift cards, and others give you the chance to win raffle entries. Keep playing long enough and you just might be able to try your luck with the $10,000 bonus scratch card!
After playing a card, you can watch a 30-second video and move on to the next one. You can play each type of scratch card once per day. The “clock” resets daily, but bonus cards become available in the afternoon and evening (Eastern Standard Time) so try to be online during those times. This works for me because I’m usually on my commute home during those hours.
In addition to the regular ways to win, Lucktastic also gives regular users the opportunity to win bonuses. If you use their app four days in a row, you get tokens as a daily reward. It starts at 150 tokens, then the daily amount increases until you’ve hit 500 bonus tokens. Keep it up, and on the fifth day, you might even win a mystery reward, which can come in the form of cash, more tokens, or contest entries.
I think these daily bonuses are awesome because they allow you to quickly stockpile those tokens.
Other Earning Methods
In addition to playing scratch cards you can also earn tokens via the following methods:
Downloading Sponsored Apps
You will get around 300 tokens whenever you download a sponsored app. Take note, some offers might require you to keep the app on your device for a specific period of time.
Spread the Lucktastic word on social media, and you’ll get 1,000 tokens whenever one of your friends downloads the Lucktastic app.
Join as a Student Ambassador
Since Lucktastic doesn’t require any purchase, it’s technically not gambling. And that’s why kids can play – US residents ages 13 and up can use Lucktastic. To further incentivize students, Lucktastic offers exclusive merch for qualifying members.
How to Claim Your Prizes
When you win cash and tokens, they will be credited to your account, and you can always view your balances. Okay, so far I’ve talked about cash and tokens… but how do you claim your winnings, exactly? I’ll cover each one individually:
Once you’ve won a minimum of $1, you can request a payout, which will be sent to you via Dwolla. If you decide to save your winnings, you can request a cheque payout once you’ve accumulated at least $10. And if you really save your earnings, you can request a Visa prepaid card when you’re winnings amount to at least $100.
It’s good to have a cash option, but I really do miss getting my money via PayPal.
You can also use your cash winnings to purchase gift cards. Lucktastic has lots of gift card options from popular shops and establishments, including Amazon, Domino’s, Bed Bath & Beyond, Walmart, JC Penney, and Dunkin’ Donuts (we should probably get used to calling them just Dunkin’).
Tokens function as a sort of in-app currency. When you’ve accumulated at least 10,000 tokens, you can purchase gift cards. The cards you can purchase with tokens are the same as the ones you can purchase with cash.
You can also use your tokens to buy raffle entries. The raffle gives you the chance to win $500 for groceries, gadgets, gift cards, cash, and even more tokens. It’s fun and all, but I prefer using my tokens for actual rewards. I’d hate to lose all my winnings through the raffle program. But if this is something you’d like to try, go give it a try.
The Verdict: Legit or Scam?
Is Lucktastic legit? It totally is! The site uses an advertising business model, which is why it doesn’t have to charge members for those scratch cards. And that translates to an overall positive experience for us. We can keep playing as many cards as our limits allow.
Sometimes, it did feel a bit tedious, especially with their 30-second video that comes with each scratch card, but that’s a minor complaint. Overall, Lucktastic is awesome and I highly recommend it!
So that’s my Lucktastic review. Now it’s your turn to share! Have you tried your luck with this app?
